ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

We are looking for a dynamic faculty member eager to teach, mentor, and advise the next generation of teachers. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in the area of mathematics education with a specialization in elementary and/or middle grades education or related field (ABD considered) and preference will be given for individuals with one, or more, of the following: at least three years of elementary and/or middle teaching experience (K-8), significant experience working with student teachers, college teaching experience, a desire to work with schools, online teaching experience, and individuals who increase the diversity of our faculty. 

Additional requirements include the ability to supervise practicum students and organize the practicum experience with schools, teach mathematics education and other education courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop electronic portfolios, conduct scholarly research, publish, and perform service to the University and profession.  An appropriate candidate should have the ability to work with diverse student populations, model the use of technology, and communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and students. 

Responsibilities may include: Teaching undergraduate and graduate mathematics education courses both on campus, off-campus, and online, supervising field experiences, working collaboratively with colleagues in Arts and Sciences and in urban/suburban/rural field-based programs, engaging in scholarly activity, working with the Kentucky Center for Mathematics (http://www.kentuckymathematics.org), academic advising, and community and university service.

The Kentucky Center for Mathematics is a statewide center charged with improving the teaching and learning of mathematics at all levels.  The KCM offers on-going professional development for mathematics educators, supports these teachers as they implement the strategies learnt during the training sessions, evaluates the efficacy of this professional development programs offered and provides resources for teachers. Through its Primary Mathematics Intervention Program, Mathematics Coaching Program and Adult Education program the KCM is working with educators in 101 of Kentucky’s 120 counties. 

The KCM funds reassigned time during the academic year and summer stipends to provide faculty members’ with opportunities to engage in mathematics education research; apply for external funding to support mathematics education research and outreach; and develop and implement curriculum innovations and enhancements.

The Haile/US College of Business invites applications from faculty who will take an active role in moving the Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute (EI) to the next level.  This is an exciting time in the evolution of the Entrepreneurship Institute as our impact on students, community, and the field of entrepreneurship continues to grow.  Thanks to a gift from the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile/US Bank Foundation, we are creating the first Haile/US Bank Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship at Northern Kentucky University.   Applicants are encouraged to submit materials for all positions of interest.

The Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute is in its tenth year and is currently the only school in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to offer a major in entrepreneurship that is growing every year. The Institute also offers a minor in entrepreneurship to students from across campus, a graduate specialization for MBA and MSIS students, and a post-baccalaureate certificate. The minor and certificate are offered in both traditional and fully on-line formats. This nationally recognized program connects students to the discipline of entrepreneurship not only through the classroom, but also by providing experiential learning experiences, such as internships, guest speakers, and the student designed Master Entrepreneur Awards Celebration. Student teams placed first in both Kentucky and Ohio state Business Plan Competitions in 2009.  The EI was named one of the 2006 “Top 25” Undergraduate programs for Entrepreneurship by Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine and one of the 2007 Top 50 MBA Programs for Entrepreneurship by Women 3.0 Magazine.  The work of the EI was again recognized when they were awarded the 2007 National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers Excellence in Entrepreneurship Teaching and Pedagogical Innovation Award.  The EI Board members are very active in the success of the programs and as well as the local entrepreneurial community.   Learn more about the Institute and the programs at http://ei.nku.edu/

Haile/US Bank Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship.  Applicants for this tenure-track position should have a proven track record in scholarly activity, teaching, service, and outreach. The Chair will work with (or direct) the Fifth Third Entrepreneurship Institute, provide leadership to the entrepreneurship academic program, teach and conduct research in entrepreneurship-related fields, and act as a role model and mentor for the department and college.  The successful candidate will have a national reputation in entrepreneurship, an earned doctorate, and a distinguished record of achievement in both teaching and research.  The Endowed Chair may be combined with the Directorship.

Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute (EI) Director.   The EI Director is responsible for teaching Entrepreneurship in undergraduate and graduate programs while providing effective leadership for the Institute.  The director will represent the Institute with external constituencies and across the university.   Preferred candidates would have a Ph.D. or D.B.A. or anticipate completing such a degree before the time of appointment. Commitment to teaching excellence and to scholarly activity is required.  Qualified applicants would be considered for a tenure-track position.  The EI Director position may be combined with the Endowed Chair.

Assistant/Associate Professor - Entrepreneurship.  Primary responsibilities for this tenure-track will include teaching Entrepreneurship courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and contributing to the success of the Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute.  Candidates must have a Ph.D., D.B.A., J.D. or anticipate completing such a degree before the time of appointment. Commitment to teaching excellence and to scholarly productivity is required. Interest in alternative delivery formats and entrepreneurial experience is strongly desired.   Applicants must also be willing to engage in business and community outreach.

The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a Tenure-track, Assistant Professor beginning in August, 2010.  We seek an animal behaviorist with a strong interest in evolutionary biology. The position requires a Ph.D. in Biology/Zoology. Primary teaching responsibilities include animal behavior, evolution (majors and non-majors), and upper division courses in area of expertise. The Department of World Languages and Literatures seeks applicants for a Tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Spanish beginning fall 2010. PhD in Spanish or related field completed by August 1, 2010 required and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Specialty in Spanish Peninsular Literature and Culture.  Demonstrated commitment to and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching at all levels, student success and program development. The NKU Spanish major is a rapidly growing program that places equal emphasis on literary and cultural studies. The Department of Kinesiology and Health

HEALTH/WELLNESS EDUCATION ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:  Candidates must have an earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Health Education or related field from an accredited institution with clear demonstration of skills in lifetime wellness; evidence of successful college teaching experience and/or clinical experience; record of/or potential for scholarly activity; potential to secure external funding; and skill in the use of emerging educational technologies.  Responsibilities include:  teaching undergraduate health content courses (e.g., personal health/wellness, community health, drug & alcohol education, sexuality education, introduction to health education, etc.), disciplinary content and pedagogy courses, P-12 health education methods courses, and supervise practicum students and student teachers.  All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate continuous activity in a defined scholarly areas, and willingness to involve and mentor undergraduate students in research and public engagement projects.  Candidates will also be expected to serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and provide service to the profession and community.

The Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP, Ed.D. ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE or PROFESSOR:  NKU is seeking faculty to teach, mentor, and advise in the University’s first Ed.D. in Educational Leadership for experienced, fully-employed P-16 education leaders and practitioners. The program is designed to develop “practitioner scholars” by enhancing the effectiveness of local/regional educational leaders through: 1) increasing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions shown to promote learning and development; 2) enhancing the ability to inspire others within their organization and community to excel; and 3) engaging them and their institutions within the broader community to increase the educational attainment, economic viability, and livability of our metropolitan area.
Qualifications for the Ed.D. positions include an earned doctorate in educational leadership or related field, a record of excellent teaching at the graduate and/or doctoral levels, a bent toward innovative thinking about the nature of effective leadership, a national reputation for scholarship and innovation in educational leadership, an interest in community-based (systems) approaches to enhancing education in a region, and considerable interest in and experience with working among school-based practitioners.  Teaching assignment may be both the traditional schedule and the weekend cohort program.
 
Additional requirements include the ability to:  teach graduate courses on-campus, off-campus, and online; advise graduate students, conduct scholarly research, publish, and perform service to the university and profession. COUNSELOR EDUCATION ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE:  Candidates for this position will have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education by employment date of spring, 2010 or fall, 2010.  Responsibilities include: teaching, research, service and program support in a masters-level Professional Counseling Program in northern Kentucky. Specific responsibilities will include teaching courses leading to certification/licensure in professional counseling and school counseling, an active, productive program of research, student advisement, and service to the program, department, and university. The successful candidate will teach courses on both the undergraduate and graduate level.  REQUIRED -area of interest school counseling, demonstrable evidence of scholarship or potential for scholarship (as evidenced by publications, presentation, grants, current research, etc.); and licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a LPC in the state of Kentucky

The Chair will work with (or direct) the Fifth Third Entrepreneurship Institute, provide leadership to the entrepreneurship academic program, teach and conduct research in entrepreneurship-related fields, and act as a role model and mentor for the department and college.  The successful candidate will have a national reputation in entrepreneurship, an earned doctorate, and a distinguished record of achievement in both teaching and research.  The Endowed Chair may be combined with the Directorship.

Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute (EI) Director.   The EI Director is responsible for teaching Entrepreneurship in undergraduate and graduate programs while providing effective leadership for the Institute.  The director will represent the Institute with external constituencies and across the university.   Preferred candidates would have a Ph.D. or D.B.A. or anticipate completing such a degree before the time of appointment. Commitment to teaching excellence and to scholarly activity is required.  Qualified applicants would be considered for a tenure-track position.  The EI Director position may be combined with the Endowed Chair.

Assistant/Associate Professor - Entrepreneurship.  Primary responsibilities for this tenure-track will include teaching Entrepreneurship courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and contributing to the success of the Fifth Third Bank Entrepreneurship Institute.  Candidates must have a Ph.D., D.B.A., J.D. or anticipate completing such a degree before the time of appointment. Commitment to teaching excellence and to scholarly productivity is required. Interest in alternative delivery formats and entrepreneurial experience is strongly desired.   Applicants must also be willing to engage in business and community outreach.

Salmon P. Chase College of Law

Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law is seeking applications from candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions to begin in the 2010-11 academic year.
The first position is a Director of Externships.  Responsibilities would include developing externship placement opportunities for our full-time and part-time students, conducting appropriate supervisory training and mentoring, and providing appropriate classroom instruction. 
For the second position, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in intellectual property law who could also teach one or more of the following subject areas:  property, torts or contracts.
We are looking for candidates with excellent academic credentials who are committed to teaching and scholarship.  While prior legal teaching experience and scholarship will be looked upon favorably, they are not requirements for the position.
